The Stone Monastery in Saragossa

There are many people who visit and the Stone Monastery in the province of Saragossa every year. It is clear that Saragossa is an unusual landscape well worth seeing but we must also consider the wonderful presence which the monastery has.

This Monastery was founded in 1195, when Aragonese King Alfonso II supported the establishment of a monastery for dozens of monks coming from Poblet. With the tithes and tributes that the kings granted to the monks, in the thirteenth century the Stone Monastery was one of the richest, most powerful and most influential establishments in Aragon.

As a result of the 1835 confiscation, the monastery was abandoned and its goods were acquired by individuals. Within the enclosure of the monastery you will be in the Abbatial Palace which has a really peculiar facade which is piled up in columns in a disorderly manner. A short walk later, you will arrive at the church of the monastery which is characteristically Romanesque, although unfortunately damaged.

The oldest parts of the enclosure are still in good condition. There is also a library hall which dates back to the 15th century.

From the monastery to the zone of cascades there is a short section that looks like a prairie or an orchard, a precious garden by which you can take a walk with delight. And then you will arrive at the arms of the Piedra River whose other end forms the unevenness of the land produced by the same river.

You can cross colorful grottos, cascades, strolls and corners. I would say that it will take a long time to cross them, mainly because you will pause in places like the grotto, or the Lake of the Mirror, as well as the grotto of the Tail of the Horse. This last one is really spectacular since it is a natural cave at whose mouth a water curtain falls from a height of more than 50 meters.

Nothing should stop you from visiting ferienhaus spanien this wonderful natural enclave in this province. Just ask anyone in the hotels in Saragossa in which you lodge. But you must remember to bring food and other belongings to travel the long road leading to the monastery. You must be well informed about the roads and well prepared to travel the distance involved. This is one journey which will be of tremendous pleasure to your and all your family members.
